For my item I chose a simple brown knit dress. Here's how I restyled it.
Layering is a great way to stretch your wardrobe. I layered a fun cat print skirt over the knit dress and belted over the high waisted skirt with a tan braided belt.
I'm wearing:
Dress: TJ Maxx
Skirt: Charlotte Russe
Heels: N/A
Here are a few outtakes during out photoshoot. It was a bit hectic with the dog and baby. Baby fell over, hit her head, and needed some cuddles. Dog kept getting into the picture.
See how I've styled this dress in Week 1!
Play along and link up!

Didn't even think about putting a skirt over a dress! Clever!!! Love the cats too.

Tricky tricky! Eh?
DeleteSo funny, JUST today I was daydreaming over basic plain t-shirts I could tuck into skirts and let the patterns stand out. Just so happens, I have a few plain dresses just like this one. DUH! I was already wearing my dress as a plain t-shirt.
Saves me money from buying new t-shirts and stretches my wardrobe just a bit further. Win-win.
Even I forget about this trick sometimes....even while I'm wearing it. Er...
I love how this came together - the way you have woven the belt looks almost nautical, the print is whimsical and unexpected and those heels are soooo cute.
ReplyDeleteThe 'out takes' are actually pretty stylie too x
Thanks, Nin!! I wore the outfit all day and it felt really good!
DeleteThe cat print skirt is my favorite. It's very subtle.

Love it Talia! So pretty and simple :)
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you, Sophie!!
DeleteLove these photos, especially the outtakes! x
ReplyDeletehaha, Thank you! The outtakes made it a really fun photoshoot. Phil came home for lunch and I sheepishly asked if he could snap a few photos before he went back to work.
DeleteHe's the best.
hahaha I love the outtakes! So funny! My cat tries to sneak his way into pictures too. I've never even thought about laying a skirt over a knit dress, that is fantastic! I think I may go try this now...LOL

You should definitely try it! I learned this trick from another and I love it.
DeleteI recently made a knee-length skirt, and I like wearing it with a blue tank top, a brown beaded necklace, and white flats. I also have other patterned skirts that I like to wear with plain shirts. I'll try to take one of my clothing pieces and restyle it several different ways! I'll post them on my blog, and I'll link you to them.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds really cool! Wow that you made your own skirt! I'd love to see pictures of it!!
DeleteOh, my comment put the wrong date. It's actually May 9, 2012 10:19 AM.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, that's because I live in New Zealand now and I've changed my blogs' time to New Zealand time. We're a day ahead!! :)
DeleteSuch a babe! This outfit looks great and what a cleaver idea!
